![]() I have Jellyfin as a container on Proxmox which as a mount point of my content folders for Jellyfin to process them. I was just impressed by the overall discovery, cataloging and presentation, kind of fire and forget. I can consult it on Web or iPad - the latter working well as in the rendering is readable although I have to see if I can get the continuity between devices (resume read at exact position) working better (it seems to be dependent on the format of the source but I have not spent enough time on this yet). Having collections for series of Comics I like is great for me. Is it perfect? No, but, like every system of this nature, it depends a lot on the source/format for the content you throw at it. With that said, I did not bother going to Calibre-web - I saw it through exposed instances on the Internet though.īack to your comment, Jellyfin did his magic, appealing to my laziness culture of efficiency, by presenting a very large majority of the books I have in thousands of folders in different languages. Well, I tried Calibre desktop app a few times and never manage to go past the UI - it does not reflect on the quality of the app, I am just a human being and never liked the UI. I set up jellyfin side by side so it's not like I'm locked to Plex at all, but it's just the best way to get more mileage out of my collection. It just works, and my content is still my own. Combined with Plex sso makes it viable to let my parents watch from my server - no walking then through setting the server url or setting up a VPN, or changing domains / port forwarding and having to reconfigure all my friends. Not to mention, being subscribed to the Plex updates newsletters, I'm always impressed by the pace of new features, app redesigns, and new free content being added. I personally don't need any of the paid Plex features, but I paid for the lifetime pass about 10 years ago because Plex seems to have a sustainable business model that both enables low friction consumption of pirated media while toeing the line of what features they can provide (see the former Google drive and Amazon drive integrations, which for a short time let us (ab)use unlimited cloud storage and Plex pass funded cloud compute for very scalable large media servers). It's more important for me to see more usage of my media library by helping others quit streaming services. The alternative is that I consume my media library on my own and not share with friends because they find paying for Netflix easier. What Is SelfHosted, As it pertains to this subreddit?
